An exhibition showcasing the achievements of the "Jiangsu Literature Translated" project, organized by Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, has garnered broad attention at the 32nd Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), which took place in Beijing from June 17 to 21.

The exhibition displayed 30 books translated into foreign languages since the project's launch in 2021, highlighting the translation and dissemination of works by writers and scholars in Jiangsu province. It attracted a diverse audience, including authors, translators, sinologists, publishers, and professional readers.

It featured works in both literary and academic categories, translated into eight languages, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese, Kyrgyz, and Indonesian. In addition to physical books, a digital reading area was available at the exhibition, allowing visitors to sample works online.

The "Jiangsu Literature Translated" project leverages international platforms such as the Frankfurt Book Fair, London Book Fair, and Beijing International Book Fair to promote Jiangsu's outstanding literary and academic works globally.

Yuan Nan, vice-president of Phoenix Media, emphasized the project's commitment to selecting works with Jiangsu characteristics and contemporary relevance for translation. Through translation and cross-cultural communication, more overseas readers are paying more attention to Jiangsu literature and the development of modern Chinese society.

Over the past five years, the "Jiangsu Literature Translated" project has published works by 11 authors from Jiangsu, encompassing various genres including novels, children's literature, poetry, and non-fiction. This initiative not only bridges language gaps but also offers international readers a window into Chinese society and culture.

In addition to publishing, the project collaborates with overseas publishers, universities, and cultural institutions to host book launches, authors' talks, and reading events, fostering deep connections between works and readers. Jiangsu's literary voices are increasingly crossing regional and linguistic boundaries, gaining new readership and responses worldwide.

While literary works connect the world through stories and emotions, academic works promote dialogue through ideas and knowledge. Launched in 2022, the "Jiangsu Academic Works Translated" project focuses on academic achievements from Jiangsu, contributing to the academic exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

Six academic works have been published in foreign languages, covering traditional culture, Chinese philosophy, calligraphy, modernization theory, history and culture. These works, available in English, French, and Russian, address topics of global concern while staying rooted in Chinese experience and culture.
