Run Fast, Fang Yihe published by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing won the 12th National Excellent Children's Literature Award, according to the voting result by the award committee on July 25.
Created by Qi Zhi, the novel is inspired by real-life stories, highlighting the determination of contemporary youth who persevere and shine through challenges, along with the heartfelt warmth and simple kindness from society.
During summer vacation, Fang Yihe experienced the heartbreaking loss of his father, marking the beginning of his complex life journey. Faced with his mother's worsening illness, he chose to stay strong and hopeful, handling household duties and encouraging her to endure the hardship. In front of teachers and classmates, he kept a cheerful and hardworking appearance, always helpful, while secretly feeling anxious and worried that others might notice the changes in his family.
Luo Xiaopan's father, a close friend of his, unexpectedly returned from Africa, unsettling Fang's peaceful life. Following an initial period of shock and disorder, the boy, guided by love and support from friends, gradually found the courage to face what lies ahead.
The novel has also earned additional accolades, such as being shortlisted for the 2024 Chinese Books of the Year, listed among the Top 30 Favorite Children's Books in 2025, and named one of the Best Books by Phoenix Media in April 2024.
