PPMG launches Sinhala edition of children's book series in London

The Sinhala edition of popular science picture book series dedicated to environmental conservation was launched on March 11 at the 2025 London Book Fair in the United Kingdom.
The book series showcases the beauty of China's natural environment, including environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, marine environment protection, and zero-carbon living, through both images and words. The Sinhala edition is published by Neptune Publications in Sri Lanka.

Zhang Chaoyang, chairman of Phoenix Publishing Media Group, extended a warm welcome to all guests. As one of the world's top 50 publishing companies, PPMG has long been committed to promoting Chinese culture overseas and tapping into the publishing markets of countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, according to Zhang.
The publication of the book series in Sinhala is another important achievement for PPMG in this endeavor. This set of popular science works will allow children in Sri Lanka and around the world to better understand China's ecological civilization construction, facilitating deeper cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka, he said.
Dinesh Kulatunga, chairman of Neptune Publications, believes that the books convey important ecological concepts and offer a foundation for sustaining life on Earth. The exquisite illustrations, rich scientific images, and vivid stories in the book provide readers with an immersive reading experience. He expressed full confidence that this series will inspire children in Sri Lanka to take positive action toward a greener, more sustainable, and beautiful world.

Translator Muditha Karunasinghe shared her thoughts after translating the series, saying that the book professionally imparts information about nature and poetically depicts the beauty of nature while also exploring the harmonious relationship between human beings and the environment from a philosophical perspective, revealing the importance of protecting nature. She referred to the book series as a "participatory environmental education encyclopedia of China" and hopes that children will learn the necessity of protecting the Earth through reading.
Tony Caplin, consultant of the New Classic Press, hailed the release of the series in Sinhala. He said that this series simplifies complex ecological concepts, nurturing readers' love for and sense of responsibility towards nature. It aligns with the trajectory of China's ecological civilization construction and the core principles of global sustainable development. He expects it serve as a source of inspiration for Sri Lankan children.
Cao Yunde, head of Khmer Press, representing the publisher of the Cambodian edition of the series, congratulated the publication of the Sinhala edition. He said that the Sinhala edition will help spread Chinese culture and offer new platforms for global cultural exchanges. He looks forward to more cooperation between Khmer Press and Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing, publisher of the series' Chinese edition, to promote the development of children's book publishing in Asia.
