Formerly known as Jiangsu Ancient Books Publishing House, Phoenix Books was founded in 1984, renamed in 2022, and reorganized in 2009.
Phoenix Books commits itself to preserving and promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture. It has focused on collating ancient books, historical documents, social archives, academic research, and indigenous culture.
Its titles have proven professional and academically influential in academic circles and the market. Many of its books have won national awards, including the highest prize, the Government Award of Chinese Publishing, and more than 30 titles have been selected to be national publishing projects. Periodicals include Common Sense in Classical Literature and The Chinese Classics and Culture.
Phoenix Books is dedicated to not only upholding and advancing this cultural legacy through specialized publishing but also integrating it with general publishing initiatives. This approach aims to foster a broader appreciation of Chinese culture and contribute meaningfully to its dissemination.
In recent years, Phoenix Books has excelled in the exports of books. Its publications are widely favored by more than 100 East Asian libraries overseas, often being purchased and permanently collected. Since 2013, Phoenix Books has been selected as one of the top 100 Chinese publishers in the "Ranking of Influence of Overseas Collections of Chinese Books" for consecutive years.
