Park Young-ryul, CEO of Communication Books, delivers a speech at the fifth Phoenix Writer Annual Conference.
Park Young-ryul, CEO of Communication Books, a South Korean publisher, delivered a speech titled South Korea and China Working Together to Bring Asian Culture to the World at the fifth Phoenix Writer Annual Conference held on Oct 25 in Nanjing.
"The global village is currently undergoing an 'internal explosion' revolution." What is an "internal explosion" revolution? The CEO explains that if the industrial revolution 200 years ago was an "external explosion" revolution that expanded human capabilities outward, then the current information and intelligence revolution is a revolution that inspires human capabilities internally.
In his opinion, if the industrial revolution strengthened human muscles, the intelligence revolution is expanding human brains and nerves. This is a revolution of information and knowledge, a revolution of human wisdom.
"The influence of artificial intelligence in the world of knowledge and publishing will far exceed the changes the industrial revolution made to the material world over the past 200 years, and it will happen much faster," the CEO noted. Faced with new opportunities in industrial transformation, he used a vivid metaphor, likening colleagues in the publishing industry to "train drivers", utilizing AI to process and produce information, as well as to find readers and deliver books.
Under these circumstances, what should publishers do? He summarized three points: first, translate the Chinese and Korean publications and publish them faster and more accurately; second, deliver books to potential readers worldwide at more reasonable prices and with greater precision; third, not only provide text but also offer audio, music, and visually appealing publications faster and at lower prices. "We can overcome language and distance barriers to provide our publications to the whole world. This is our future," he said.
Finally, he concluded his speech with the mission of his publishing house, "Let there be no books in the world that people cannot understand."
