Nanjing-based Phoenix Publishing and Media Group inked a memorandum of understanding on the Sino-German translation project with Deutsche Ubersetzerfonds, a German translation foundation, on Oct 17 during the 76th Frankfurt Book Fair.
The two sides have reached a consensus to jointly support the long-term operation of the China-Germany Two-Way Translation Workshop, which opened in Nanjing in September this year, including providing publishing resources, financial support, and assistance in publicity and marketing for the workshop's publishing projects.
They also plan to submit China-Germany two-way collaborative translation and publishing projects within the next three to five years.
By signing this memorandum, PPMG and Deutsche Ubersetzerfonds have officially established a strategic partnership, and both sides look forward to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Germany through this collaboration, achieving mutual benefits in copyright import and export and further promoting mutual understanding and appreciation of the two countries' cultures.
Germany is the world's third-largest publishing power. As a leading enterprise in the Chinese publishing industry, PPMG has, in recent years, had close cultural exchanges and frequent interactions with Germany.
The group has visited the Frankfurt Book Fair Group, the largest and most influential in the world, and the German Schiller Society multiple times. It has also signed projects with IPR Online Copyright Trading and held copyright trade training sessions in Germany.
Over the past five years, PPMG's various publishing houses, including Yilin Press, have introduced 53 books from Germany and exported the copyright of 38 books to Germany.
