Renowned writers, scholars, and translators from China and Hungary met at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary on May 21 to discuss the overseas spread of Chinese literature as well as the cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The activity was organized by Phoenix Publishing and Media Group (PPMG), the Jiangsu Writers Association, and Eotvos Lorand University.

The Hungarian university has collaborated with nearly 50 Chinese universities and cultivated groups of experts in Chinese language and culture.

Hamar·Imre, vice-president of Eotvos Lorand University, who was visiting China at the time, said in his video speech that the university boasts a strong partnership with PPMG and he expects to further cooperate with the group to introduce more Chinese literature to Hungarian readers.

"Chinese literature is important to me", said Mészáros Sándor, former Hungarian ambassador to China and renowned writer. "If you want to learn about the culture of a country, you must first learn about its literature."

Phoenix Bookshelf is unveiled at the Eotvos Lorand University.

During the activity, PPMG inaugurated a Phoenix Bookshelf in the university. Because of PPMG, works by Hungarian writers such as Sátántangó by Krasznahorkai László and 8 Pedoffie Street by Péterfy Gergely can now be read by people in China.
