Chileans celebrate Spring Festival

More than 10,000 Chileans and overseas Chinese people attend celebrations for the upcoming Spring Festival in Providencia district, San Diego, Chile on Jan 14.
The Confucius Institute of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile organized celebrations for the upcoming Spring Festival in Santiago, capital of Chile, on Jan 14, which falls on Jan 22 this year.
To better promote traditional Chinese culture, the institute set up about 16 booths to showcase Chinese delicacies, handicrafts, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Phoenix Publishing and Media Group also displayed various books on Chinese culture.
Chinese Ambassador to Chile Niu Qingbao and head of Providencia district delivered a speech at the event.

With support from PPMG, the celebrations were attended by more than 10,000 Chileans and overseas Chinese people, including Lilian Ferrer, vice-principal of UC Chile, Gu Hongjuan, Chinese president of the Confucius Institute of UC Chile, and José Luis Parra, foreign president of the Confucius Institute of UC Chile.
The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Chile, Providencia district government of San Diego, Confucius Institute of UC Chile, and Chilean Dragon and Lion Dance Federation.
In 2015, with approval from the Office of the National Leading Group for the International Promotion of Chinese Language in China, PPMG established the Confucius Institute with Nanjing University and UC Chile.
Three years later, PPMG set up a Phoenix Library at the university to promote cultural exchange and cooperation in teaching between the two countries.
