Set during the eight-year China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the performance depicts solidarity in the rear area and the noble virtue of the Chinese people and showcases how children were inspired to embark on the road to revolution.

The novel was published by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing Ltd in 2018 and has sold nearly 200,000 copies.

The novel has also been published in the United Kingdom, India, Malaysia, Lebanon, and Vietnam.
