A speech at the event given by General Manager She, entitled "The present state of the Chinese book publishing industry" was broadcast on Oct 5, 2020. Both the hosting of the 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair and She's insights into the Chinese publishing industry offered positive signals to the German publishing industry.

The following is the above-mentioned article published on She's WeChat account.

Publishing offers systematic and profound knowledge about theory, thought and aesthetics, which cater to the need for literacy and civilization. Such a demand is prodigious for a country with a large population and it also indicates that a culturally confident people must have a prosperous publishing industry.

As China continues to develop its economy, politics, culture, society and environment, it will come to increasingly rely on an independent social science system and a publishing industry as support.

As Chinese science and technology become major drivers of global economic development, science and technology-related publications and knowledge-based services will account for a larger and larger share of all publishing in China, and with the increasing public interest in art, art books will become an ever more important publishing category as well.

Therefore, social sciences, natural sciences, and art books are expected to see an explosive increase in popularity in the country, more so than literary works, children's books and educational books.

Chinese publishing houses previously published a wide array of books but are becoming increasingly specialized. A healthy, stable, and high-quality publishing industry has taken shape in China.

Cross-media publishing, which is developed from traditional publishing, along with internet marketing and sales, makes publishing content more diversified, marketing more various, and sales more targeted. Finally, the effectiveness of a single product has improved significantly.

Knowledge services are also on the rise. Publishing content has become more standardized in order to satisfy the increasing demand of readers for more access to knowledge and culture outside of books.

The future looks bright for the Chinese publishing industry, and it will be greeted by many well-prepared publishing houses.
