Jiangsu-based Phoenix Publishing and Media Inc was listed 12th in the "Global 50" Ranking of the Publishing Industry, co-published by the French publishing trade magazine Livres Hebdo and Bookdao, Buchreport, Publishers' Weekly and PublishNews on August 31, 2019.
The list, which includes the top 50 publishing companies in the world in terms of their annual revenue, has been published annually since 2007.
Based on research conducted by Ruediger Wischenbart Content and Consulting, a famous international research institute for the book industry, this year's ranking collected each company's 2018 revenue statistics from either official company reports, or data provided by the involved companies, or information retrieved from company data registries.
The "Global 50" list is discussed by Livres Hebdo in a French article.
"We ruled out revenue from newspapers, magazines, and communications if we could separate them from the total revenue," said Ruediger Wischenbart, the famous international book industry consultant who researched and co-authored the list, according to a report by Bookdao on Sept 3.
For the 2019 ranking, co-publisher Bookdao helped to detail the revenues from publishing or wholesale distribution so that other revenues could have been excluded for this survey, which explains a drop of incorporated turnover.
Bringing China back onto the list after a two-year absence, Phoenix Publishing and Media Inc and four other Chinese companies ranked in the "Global 50", while Phoenix is among the top of them.
The Phoenix International Book Mall is located at No 1 Hunan Road, Gulou district, Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
