Phoenix comics get national support

Updated: 2017-08-11

Three comic strips published by subsidiaries of Phoenix Media, China's leading publisher, have been selected to receive support by China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

"Humorous and Ingenious Solutions to Math Questions" and "Stories along the Silk Road" by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing, and "Classic Chinese Folk Tales in Pictures" by Phoenix Fine Arts Publishing have been included in the administration's 2017 "Original Force" project, which encourages the publication of original cartoons and animations in China.

"Humorous and Ingenious Solutions to Math Questions" has been included in the "Original Force" project for the third consecutive years. It's a comic strip published in Children's Story Pictorial, an illustrated magazine created by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing whose target readers are primary school students.

The theme of this epic comic strip revolves around a group of intelligent pupils who cleverly solve various math questions they encounter in their lives. The comic strips are easy to read and the topics are often light-hearted.

Published in Colorful Chinese magazine, an extracurricular reading material issued by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing, "Stories along the Silk Road" follows the adventures of three boys from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and introduces historical stories and the customs and practices of the regions along the ancient Silk Road. It's both informative and reader-friendly.

So far, five comics published by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing have received national support.

"Classic Chinese Folk Tales in Pictures" is suitable for children aged 6 to 8 to read with their parents while children between 8 and 12 years old can read it on their own.

With fine binding and designing, the exquisite picture book introduces kids to best-known folk tales in China in beautiful language and pictures. Readers can trace the origin of socialist core values and learn about traditional Chinese culture from the book.

The project was selected into the "Cartoon and Animation Creation of Classical Chinese Folk Tales", which is another program organized by the administration. Among the entries into 2017 "Original Force" project, it ranks 2nd place, marking the third time Phoenix Fine Arts Publishing has received support from the project.
