Le Clézio is a French-Mauritian writer and professor, known as an author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy. At 23, his first novel The Interrogation won huge success and earned him the Prix Reaudot in 1963.

During the interview, the Nobel Prize winner expressed his affection for Chinese literature, which he said was glamorous, profound, passionate and humorous. He also said he hoped more of his works could be published in China.

On May 14 the festival staged a readers meeting with British writer Jeanette Winterson, whose works are usually regarded as rebellious and full of imagination. She became famous with her debut novel, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, which was adapted into BBC TV series in 1990. She is also a holder of Order of the British Empire.

Winterson read a section in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit at the meeting, where her easy character and humorous way of speech touched the audience. She also shared her experience of literary creation and exchanged ideas with the readers.
