Jiangsu holds first Yangtze River Writers Week
The first China Yangtze River Writers Week, co-hosted by the Jiangsu Writers Association, Jiangsu Cultural Investment and Management Group and Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, took place in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province, from May 12 to 16.
Aimed at offering an exchange platform for Chinese and foreign writers, promoting Chinese literature and enhancing the reputation of Chinese writers in the world, the inaugural event invited a group of major Chinese literary names, including Yu Hua, Su Tong and Han Shaogong, as well as foreign masters including the French Nobel Prize winner Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio to exchange ideas and meet readers.
Nanjing Phoenix International Bookstore, Phoenix Media's subordinate book retailer, was responsible for three international literature exchange activities. The participants included Le Clézio, winner of the US National Book Award for Fiction Phil Klay, Order of the British Empire holder Jeanette Winterson and some Chinese literary critics. As the highlights of the event, the activities provided readers with an opportunity to have close contact with some of the world's prestigious masters of literature.
