Updated: 2016-04-29

In 2012, the Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and PPM jointly launched the Symbols of Jiangsu, an international project integrating book publication, exhibitions, performances, academic exchanges and cultural trade.

As part of the project, the Symbols of Jiangsu pocket books unveil the most symbolic cultural elements of Jiangsu and its historical development and cultural value to readers. Featuring plenty of pictures and a simple writing style, the book is regarded as a guild to Jiangsu symbols.

The project is planned to take place over 10 years, selecting a total of 112 symbols and having them spread across the world, said Yang Liqun, deputy director at the Information Office of the provincial government at the launching ceremony.

Liu Feng, vice president of PPM, also expressed his hope that the book can help those who are interested in Jiangsu better understand its varied and profound culture. He also hoped that the book could contribute to the connection between Jiangsu culture and every nationality in the world.

Xiang Xiaowei, minister counselor for culture at the Chinese embassy in London, Xu Xiaoyue, curator of the Nanjing Library, Robert Scriven, partner at Ian Taylor Associates, Jiang Yingchun, philosophy professor at Nanjing University and representatives from the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester also attended the launching ceremony.
